Being in the industry for over 20 years, McGhee has worked with some of Hollywood’s top directors: Spike Lee, Lee Daniels, and John Singleton. All of whom she has worked with to create a vision in which audiences can identify and connect with over the years.
Learning under some of the best in the industry, McGhee credits costume designer Ruth Carter as her mentor. Carter took her under her wing in 1990 on, “Mo Better Blues,” which has sparked a long working relationship. To date, they are still working on Hollywood’s best projects.
After a few years of mentorship, McGhee started growing her own wings, and set soar as a sought after costume designer in Hollywood. Mentorship has played a significant part of her career particularly helping many other young costumers learn the trade. She teaches others by encouraging, inspiring, and lifts as she climbs.
